LET’S CAMP THE FAMILY
The Thusgård Poulsen Family
– Camping is part of who we are
For us, camping has never simply been a job. It has become a way of life, a shared passion – and, over time, something that has brought our entire family together.
Our camping adventure began back in 2011, when we took the leap and bought Toftum Bjerge Camping – today known as Struer Camping. At the time, of course, we had no idea where the journey would take us. We simply knew that we wanted to create a place where people could enjoy their holidays, relax, and spend quality time together.
We quickly discovered that the best thing about camping life is not only the beautiful surroundings or being outdoors. It is the people. The little conversations around the campsite, meeting guests who return year after year, children finding new friends to play with – and the joy of helping create the setting for wonderful holiday memories.
And perhaps that is exactly why, over time, one campsite became several.
In 2019, we took over Glyngøre Camping, which we now run together with our youngest son, Jakob. He is also our maintenance man across the campsites and one of those people who is always ready to lend a hand whenever needed.
In 2024, Himmerland Camping became part of the family. Here, our eldest daughter, Maja, together with her husband, David, has embraced camping life and is now responsible for running the campsite.
And in 2026, another exciting chapter in our story begins, as Thisted Camping becomes the family’s fourth campsite.
Here, our second-oldest daughter, Sara, and her partner, Thomas, are taking over the reins. They already know the camping life very well and are looking forward to creating their own everyday life at Thisted Camping – naturally with the rest of the family close by whenever an extra pair of hands is needed.
Our second-youngest son, Jeppe, and his partner, Cecilie, have also developed a taste for life as independent business owners. They have chosen a slightly different path from the rest of the family and now run a hotel in Nykøbing Mors. So although it didn’t become a campsite, the apple clearly didn’t fall far from the tree.
What is particularly special to us is that all four of our campsites are located around the Limfjord. This is where we were born and raised. We know the nature, the fjord, the towns and the people – and this is where our roots are.
That is why it means something very special to us to be able to share this area with our guests.
Today, camping has become a family project spanning generations. We help each other, share ideas and step in whenever we are.
Our story – Henrik and Gitte
We’re Henrik and Gitte, and camping is not just our job – it’s part of our lives and our family history.
It all began on a hot summer day in 1991. We were both starting the mathematics program at Struer Gymnasium and ended up in the same class. After two years of Pnyx parties, class parties, school parties – and a lancier dance together – Henrik was finally allowed to write his 3rd year assignment on Gitte’s little brother’s computer. Since that day, we’ve been a regular couple.
Henrik was trained as a carpenter and Gitte became a graphic designer. We both studied in Randers, but spent many of our weekends and holidays at Venø Kro, which Gitte’s parents ran for more than 25 years. Here we learned what service and hospitality mean – and how much joy there is in making people feel at home.
When the apprenticeship was over, we moved home to the Limfjord and the crooked trees. We got married and had our four children – Maja, Sara, Jeppe and Jakob. Henrik started his own carpentry company, and Gitte switched from advertising to working in the office at the company – all while taking care of her children.
But with 18 employees and many long working days, we saw each other far too little. We started dreaming of a life where we could spend more time together as a family and create something together.
When we heard through the grapevine that the campsite right next to our cottage was for sale, we jumped at it. This is how Struer Camping became our new home – and the start of a new chapter. The first years were busy: Henrik was still working as a carpenter, and Gitte had a part-time job as a school secretary at one of the local schools, alongside her title as camp manager. But slowly the camping life took over and both the carpentry work and the school office were put on the shelf.
In 2019, another opportunity emerged – Glyngøre Camping. Henrik is an entrepreneur to the core and can’t help but throw himself into new projects. Originally, the plan was just to help the site get started and sell it on – but Glyngøre has something special. The nature, the atmosphere and the community captured us, and today this is where we live and work.
The children have almost flown the nest, but camping life is still filled with everything we love: freedom, presence, nature and community.
We look forward to welcoming you – and sharing a little of our everyday life and passion with you.
